Recruitment Trends for 2024

As we begin to navigate the evolving landscape of 2024, the world of recruitment continues to evolve simultaneously. With many teams planning to grow after hiring freezes in 2023, here’s some key recruitment trends to watch out for in 2024:

1. An Increase In Passively Engaged Candidates

This year we expect to see a lot more passively engaged candidates, than active job seekers. Those who were satisfied in their current roles and not actively applying to jobs are more likely to become candidates due to conversations with recruiters about new opportunities.

This will require recruiters to be more strategic and creative with their outreach efforts. Where many passive candidates are likely to ignore irrelevant and impersonal InMail’s, it’s vital that recruiters and hiring managers take the time to personalise and shape their messages to the individual.

2. Automating The Recruitment Process

Artificial Intelligence (AI) will continue to revolutionise the recruitment process. Advanced algorithms and machine learning models are being utilised to streamline candidate sourcing, screening, and matching. AI tools can analyse vast amounts of data to identify the most suitable candidates, thereby saving time and improving the accuracy of hiring decisions. Chatbots are also being increasingly used for initial candidate interactions and engagement.

Candidates will also be able to benefit more from automation in the recruitment process. New features on job seeking platforms like LinkedIn will allow candidates to save time in reaching out to recruiters and hiring teams. However, with more recruiters and hiring teams receiving these AI generated messages, are they more likely to be ignored as less thought and personalisation has been added? Only time will tell.

3. A Focus On EDI

Equity, diversity, and inclusion are no longer just buzzwords; they are integral to building strong, innovative, and successful teams. Companies are placing a greater emphasis on creating diverse and inclusive workplaces, recognising the unique perspectives and contributions that individuals from various backgrounds bring to the table. Recruitment strategies are being designed to attract a diverse talent pool, and inclusive hiring practices are being implemented to ensure fairness and equality.

4. Virtual Recruitment & Remote Hiring

The adoption of remote work has become more than just a response to external circumstances; it's now a strategic choice for many organisations. Virtual recruitment processes, including video interviews and virtual onboarding, have become the norm. Companies are leveraging advanced collaboration tools and virtual reality experiences to recreate an immersive office environment, ensuring that distance is no longer a barrier in talent acquisition.

5. Skills-Based Hiring

The rapid pace of technological change is reshaping the skillsets required in the workforce. Rather than solely relying on traditional qualifications, companies are shifting towards skills-based hiring. Assessments and tools that evaluate candidates based on their specific skills and abilities are gaining prominence. This approach allows organisations to identify candidates with the right expertise, fostering a more agile and adaptable workforce.

6. Growth & Integration of Contractors

The interim economy is expanding, and organisations are adapting their recruitment strategies to incorporate freelance and contract workers. Companies are recognising the value of a flexible workforce to meet changing demands and specialised skill requirements. Talent acquisition processes are being adjusted to include interim workers seamlessly into the overall workforce, ensuring a cohesive and productive working environment.
